About the Mayor

James W. “Jamie” Roberts was elected City of Fulshear’s Mayor for the fourth time in Fort Bend County’s General Election May 13, 2006.

Jamie was elected and served as the first Mayor of Fulshear after he spearheaded the incorporation of the City in 1977.  Mayor Roberts continued serving Fulshear for seven and a half years until 1984.  He resigned to devote his full attention to his position on the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees where he served our children for twelve years.  He became President of the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees and held the position for nine years.  Mayor Roberts has also served on the Fort Bend County Library Board for eighteen years.

Mayor Roberts has lived in Fulshear since 1968.  Jamie and his wife, Martha, raised three sons – Ron, Troy, and Jeff - in Fulshear.  Two of the sons continue to live in Fulshear while the third is in nearby Fort Bend County.  Jamie and Martha have eight grandchildren.

Mayor Roberts played a major role in establishing Fulshear’s city limits and extra territorial jurisdiction.  He led the movement to bring city services to Fulshear – water and sewer plants; street signs and lighting; and road construction.  Jamie was also instrumental in bringing public schools to the Fulshear area – Huggins Elementary, Briscoe Junior High School, and Foster High School.

Mayor Roberts, along with several other leaders, created the Fulshear Follies, an event to bring the citizens of Fulshear together for a common cause.  The Follies was a festival with musical entertainment, street fair of artists, crafts, and wares; parade, and barbeque cook-off.  The Follies raised funds for playground equipment at the new Huggins Elementary school and for the fire department.

Mayor Roberts has many goals for this term. The City of Fulshear occupies the largest land area of any city in Fort Bend County and the Mayor is dedicated to leading the City to become recognized as one of the most desirable cities to be located in west of Houston.  Jamie strives to direct Fulshear’s rapid growth, while preserving the “old town” atmosphere and keeping the original town site development in line with its history.  The city’s water and sewer services need to be upgraded and enlarged.  City government should be prepared for the City’s rapid growth by realigning responsibilities, financial organization and creating public works and law enforcement departments.  Mayor Roberts appreciates the City Council for their outstanding dedication and performance; and, they along with the Planning Commission, are leading the City towards these goals.

Jamie’s door is always open; he welcomes a visit from Fulshear citizens, and is available to hear all comments and suggestions.  Mayor Roberts sees an exciting future for Fulshear and is proud to be the City’s Mayor once again!
